  1. In my opinion, information overload causes some to overlook other important info. Having to throw loads of info at one go makes people burst with sudden reaction to the brain and puts them in confusion. Hence leads to alot of wrong choices. This tends to put people to instant panic or luring them away from critical thinking. The result can put you into depression or severe headache.

In other regard comes Attention Deficiency as it is related to IO as we tend to get distracted to todays application or graphics games. As it will lead to loss of attention, most will lose focus and lose out on social life and family time.

My response to the Digital Revolution is that technology is powerful as that it has both unlimited bad and good side of it. Being that we humans are capable of adapting. In my personal experience,I myself having trouble to live without technology and the internet but soon enough it hit me right after I was addicted to gaming. As most poll have said that almost everyone can't live without technology.
For me multi-tasking is essential as nowadays more workplace requires to do multiple jobs to increase productivity but constantly online like Facebook cause distraction and lead to attention dificiency.

In conclusion the Digital Revolution has change the way we live our lives and behaviour.

  2. Information Overload
    ----------------------------

I learned the effects on information overload is different for each person and it also affects our performance in work as well as decision making. Therefore, through proper management of information overload will save you from doing stupid things and time.

    Attention Deficiency
    ----------------------------
In class, i would just look to the lecturer's slide and listen to what he is going to say because i know that the laptop is not necessary in lecture unless you need it for practical. I think its just how you prioritize things and how you think. To put it simply, if you know that the laptop you are using is going to distract you, then just keep your laptop.

Lastly about the video, i think we are all smart enough to differentiate what is virtual reality and real world. Internet has helped me in studying , doing research as well as news around the world without it. The information i get will be slower spending lots of time finding books in library. After viewing the entire video, i find that i was able to spend more time communicate with my family compare to others and how technology help schools which was going to collapse (in terms of student performance) and also gaming addiction affect in asia countries.

To summarized, everything has its pros and cons. But some cons for internet like student playing games in school during class is actually taking some break in class or destress yourself which prevents information overload turns out to be a good things.

  3. Information overloading, is it a good or bad thing?
Through this lesson, I got to know that information overloading is a disadvantage for users.
Overloading of information does not mean that the information found is accurate; hence there is a contradiction on this issue.
It results in 2 extremes on the users, either they’re lazy and give up or wasting their time collecting the information which reduces their productivity. This affected them physically and mentally. The users may be too focused on the information which may be making bad decisions. It will eventually affect their emotional health by venting out their anger or frustration easily and there might be a risk of meltdown.

    For the video:
Effects on me when constantly online and multi-tasking:
I will lose focus easily when doing many tasks at a time.
The outcome of my work may not be the best. So I will try to prioritize my time well between leisure and school work.

    Thoughts on Game Addiction:
The element of the fantasy and element of imagination is incredibly powerful, which in turn led to many youngsters addicted to games. I have addicted to games before and I know the serious consequences of being too addicted. After getting my mid-year results and I realized that I’ve been wasting precious time in the virtual world which doesn’t even exist.

    Attention Deficiency:
In my point of view, a person suffering from attention deficiency is mainly caused by doing a lot of task at a time (multi-tasking).
Attention Deficiency does led to some disadvantages to the youths in physically and academically. They will lose their focus easily which led to drastic drops in their academic results, which may ruin their future.

Overall, I think we should prioritize our time well, able to differentiate the existing and virtual world, hence we won’t fall into the unfortunate situation.

  4. information overload : the difficulty a person can have understanding an issue and making decisions that can be caused by the presence of too much information
    -Alvin Toffler
    Influential writer & futurist

we were given too much information , to an extent that we cannot differentiate the correct and the wrong ones. for example , we were shown hoax websites and asked if they were real or they were just a hoax. being overloaded with information , can cause people to give up easily and become lazy or cause them to waste too much time compiling all the information. this in turn affects the overall performance of an individual , because this makes them unproductive.
information overload not only affects the productivity of an individual , but also the emotional health. It can cause stress and anxiety and a loss of focus. In some extreme cases , people do turn violent or suffer an emotional breakdown.

Attention deficiency, simply put it, i would say that it is the inability to concentrate.
people with attention deficiency get distracted easily and fidget frequently during lessons , this is partly due to the massive amounts of distractions we have around us.
For example , our laptops we have in front of us that we use during lessons , our handphones in our pockets , our schoolmates that would pass by our classroom. However , the problem is not identifying them but how we are going to overcome these distractions. we have to make a conscientious effort to pay attention and not get distracted

  5. After the lesson on Information Overload and Attention Deficiency , i have learnt alot about what the latest technology can do to us .

Information Overload , i think is very common to students and adults nowadays . Students are too stress over homework , test and exams that will lead to information overload . From personal experience, when i was revising for my O level , Humanities which include Geography and Social Studies . I have to remember the points in almost every page . So i did not know what to do , whether to give up that subject or just study . For adults , especially businessman and businesswoman , they have to remember many information so that they can present themselves well in the presentation . Too much information will cause information overload . Information Overload will lead to high blood pressure , headache , sleepless night , stress .

Attention Deficiency is very common for the whole nation nowadays because of the newest technology of Facebook , Twitter , Youtube . People tend to get distracted on what they doing and start to push their work aside just to update their virtual website . Students will also be distracted in school work and when their teacher is teaching , they might be playing flash games in facebook or using msn chat with other friends online . Attention Deficiency will lead to alot of problems . Students ' result dropped . Adult cannot finish their task / work / project . It is like a deadly virus attacking the whole nation with distraction .

After watching the video about multi-tasking , addiction to computer games , etc etc , i feel that it is a serious problem . What i didn't know was that , after the watching the video , i actually learned that those people who multi-tasked , their brain functions are slower than normal . I wanted to say that , there is a limit of playing computer games . There is also a interview of the south korean boys in the LAN gaming shop and i also knew that someone died in the LAN gaming shop because he had a game marathon and died because he did not had his daily meals . Games are to relieve your stress and not supposed to be bringing damage and harm to your life . I also realized that when people fell into the addiction of world of games , they can do anything . Like quitting a job just to play the game 24 hours non stop . It is too extreme , isn't it ? There is also a Internet Rescue Camp organised by South Korean government to help young adults overcome the addiction of the computer games . I think it is very useful and i hope that the camp can help as many people as they can .

  7. Effects on me when constantly online and multi-tasking.
I think for me, I multi-task a lot. Even though I finish what I was supposed to do, it has a poor quality compared if I did it not multi-tasking. Going online to check Facebook takes up my attention more than doing my homework. I tend to sit longer doing my work when I’m multi-tasking, compared to doing work solely without going online. I always think that I save time multi-tasking, but when I think of it, I actually spend more time because most of the time spend is used going online checking Facebook twitter and etc. than doing my work and finishing it.

Does Attention Deficiency affect me in my personal life and in my schoolwork?
I think Attention Deficiency affects me in my personal life and in my schoolwork. Because when I’m online I don’t really know what’s going on around me, when I’m playing games. I don’t even know my mom is calling me to eat sometimes. It is a bit surprising, but now I’ve quit playing so it is going well. Sometimes, when your friend is talking to you in the phone and you are doing other things like checking your Facebook feed, I think your friend would be pissed off because you are not really listening to what he/she says. So yes, it does affect my personal life in my family and friends.
And yes, it definitely affects my schoolwork. Like, what I’ve said I multi-task a lot and I pay more attention to my Facebook and Twitter feed more than what it’s taught or what I am doing as homework. I would not be able to concentrate much, and what registers to my mind more is my Facebook feed or friend’s comment rather than important details of the lesson. So if there are exams, I always, check my Facebook first to get it over and done with and so some serious studying.

    My thoughts on Game Addiction.
Game addiction is really pretty bad, I mean for what I’ve watched in the video, about the Korean boy, who does not really communicate with her mom because he is always plays games online. It is really sad, I have experienced it before, I kept playing maple story (during vacation) from morning ‘till night and I can’t really help my mom do some housework, I stopped after a while, the reason, I don’t really know. For me game addiction really does not help in our studies, because we can’t really play all the time, and when we stop playing to attend lessons, we actually think of the game and again our attention is in the game. For me, I would not want my husband/boyfriend/best friend to play too much of games. I mean it is okay, because I’ve tried it before it’s fun and you can divert your attention away from all of your holiday homework but in the end you have to face reality, Gaming is only a temporary paradise, it is only for a while. Besides even if they say that gaming helps socializing too, it does not really bond friendships well, well in some cases it happens but most of the time no. I rather have my real friend (in flesh and I can see) he/she can really help when I’m down. But what if suddenly internet is gone, and you need help, you can’t really consult your “online” friends because you can’t connect. So I think teenagers/adults who are addicted to games should seek help or be helped, because in the end, it’s our real life that we have to live, not the virtual life. Reality? Real Life? It is never easy.

In conclusion, if we manage our time well, and open our eyes to see which one is right and wrong, which one should not be done excessively we could live with this digital evolving world in harmony XD

  8. Overload of information usually boils down to, making decision, having choose the correct information base on what one wants. Often it results in the wrong choice due to the tons of information available, many which are fakes and unreal to mislead others. As, when one is face with lots of information, one will tend to just focus on just one piece of information just to get over with what they need to do. Therefore one must keep their mind clear and apply what we learnt in the previous week, AOQCC, to ensure better and more accurate result. Though it is not 100% accurate, but surely it is still way better then to focus on one piece of information.

However, there will always be distraction, even when researching for information, like pop-ups for example. Moreover, our attention spend are very limited, to the extend that even staring at a single object and nothing else for more than 10 minutes is challenging itself. So I find it wise to take regular quick breaks, 5min or so each time, to allow our brain to rest and absorb information. Instead of chatting/gaming halfway through work. Afterwhich, the mind itself would only be fill with thoughts about the game or thinking about what to talk about to the person next time, which only adds to the distractions available.

As for the video, it really just proves what the effect of distraction(s) can be really serious, if one doesn't take in control of what is distracting them. Being distracted is one thing, letting distraction control your life is another. Learnt not to let distraction(s) control you.

  9. This lesson getting more and more interesting!

    -Week 4-

We need to learn how to overcome our lifestyle habits and experiences that indicate
    Information Overload or Attention Deficiency.

Information Overload is about a person having difficulty understand an issue and making a right decisions that can be caused by the presence of too much information.

The effects : The person can be lazy, give up easily, wasting time, too focused and obsessed on a piece of info. Also can link to emotional health. eg: constant panic, losing temper stress and anxiety.

The overcome: planning a decisions well, set a goal to achieve it.

Attention deficiency is about excessive long hours/too focus on internet, computer games, watching movies and etc. By doing multi-tasking at all time.

After watching the "90 mins" video. I think that internet addiction is horrible! From the chapter 3 of the video(South Korea's Gaming Craze). It causes emotional, health, relationship with family, school, social and etc.
To be honest, I use to play online games/watching anime/dramas for almost whole day. Just like the boy from the video. But I manage to overcome it, due to my studies in school. Therefore, having a Internet rescue school, is useful to help those peoples who suffering from internet addiction.

  15. -Information Overload-
I understand if one absorb too much knowledge can lead to confusion and bad choices.
Knowledge is power, if you gain it well, that is the backside of the phrase. Just like me, i tend to lose focus easily because there's just too much info to absorb. Sometimes stress also comes from this as you tend to lose yourself mentally. In result, even the physical self will lose out. The solution is simply to takes things slowly and take short breaks after time so as to rest the mind.

    -Attention Deficiency-
In my opinion, this is cause by distraction as nowadays theres lots of distraction like mention in the video eg. Facebook,Youtube,MSN adn Twitter. Because out attention is limited, taking short breaks also helps restore it. In order not to lose out, controlling ourself not to go into such apps helps. Then realising that we have alot of time wastage.

    -Distracted by Everything Video-
To my response to this video, I found that every little fact reflects me during my past.
From gaming to social network.I was once a gaming addict too but I stopped after a while because i start to think, what can i gain from it apart from gaming experience? From that point on I understand my it has affect my life.
The video also points out several other good factors for example the usage of computers for studies and changing one behaviour. But every little aspect comes with a consequences and both good nd bad points. From my point of view, i consider this Digital Revolution a powerful factor balancing both good and bad choices.

  17. Through the week 4 slides, I've learn that information overloading can cause people to make wrong decision, be in a dilemma whether the information is right or wrong, give up and waste time collecting more information which is not needed. It also affects our emotional health, for example, having unfocused and throw tempers.
Attention deficiency is normally caused by distractions on the internet like the social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. In my opinion, everyone will be distracted from time to time because our attention span is short.

From the video, I have learn that when you often multi task, your brain will reduce in size. I always think that being able to multi task is awesome. I can always study, listen to music, and on Facebook at the same time. But thinking back, all these actually made me lose attention because I tend to chat more on Facebook than to concentrate on studying.

Gaming addiction is also scary, because people can don’t eat and instead play game for a long time. I feel that gaming is seriously a waste of time. I would rather spend the time with my families, catching up with my friends and revise through my work that I’ve learn earlier. If you play game too much, it’ll affect your daily life, for example, the relation between your families will be affected and your study grades will drop.

  21. Information overload , its something that most students are all to familiar with . When i first heard the term , information overload , i thought back of when i was in secondary school where i had to burn the midnight oil just to cramp last minute information to my brain . It usually didn't end up well with my test marks as i usually get just above the passing mark . Thus this shows that information overload is a disadvantage as u might interpret the information you learn wrongly , thus giving you the wrong answers . To overcome this problem , we should always start our work early and not wait till the last minute .
Attention deficiency is also another familiar term that reflects me . For me , if i were to sit through a lecture with the teacher talking continuously without any breaks for more than an hour , i would probably be looking for things to do that entertain myself . Thus even though i know its not going to benefit me , i will still do it .
Thus I'm trying to kick this habit , thus trying to set my mindset in the right track everyday , constantly reminding myself that i should not waste my time and do my work .
From watching the video , i was clearly shocked by the fact that people die just by playing computer non-stop . To think i was addicted to computers , these people definitely brought addiction to a whle new level .
what i can say that is even after the video, i wont stop playing games , but i will always prioritize my timing and do whats really needed , then spend the whole day procrastinating and gluing myself to the computer

  26. In the lesson about information overload and attention deficiency I have learned that in our world today information can be found anywhere and technology has far advanced but due to this you can also have too much information and be unable to find however technology has advanced so much that you might sink into it and forget about real life. However with the very same technology you can also help people so due to technology advancing it will have good and bad effects to the world as it is now. So to summarize technology has made the world far advance and will affect people in different ways it all depends on how you look at it.

  27. I learnt that information overload is where there is too much information that cause a person to have difficulty in understanding and making decisions.

Attention deficiency is where people normally gets distracted by the Internet. Because the Internet can provide them with a lot of things that they need. For example, online games, information, etc etc.

From the video, I realized that there are people from other countries who faced the computer the whole day without getting tired. As for me, if i were to face the computer the whole day, I would give up using halfway.

Because my eyes would be very tired and I think I would fall asleep halfway as most of the time when i watch online movies, i would doze off.

Thus, I conclude that when using the computer, we should limit ourselves in the duration of time. So that we would not neglect our time in other things like family time or doing school assignments.

  28. information overload can be an advantage and a disadvantage.but to many, it can be a disadvantage.they get too much information and they dunno which one to choose from.which one to access, which one to use.they cannot make a decision.but to others, they think they getting these lot of information, they can choose well and fast enough to use them.

attention deficiency is a very scary and dangerous problem.we would be finding some new things to do if we are doing the same thing over and over again.they are many problems and symptons to this "illness".difficulty in multitasking, difficulty in completing tasks given.this is what every one experience.

after watching this video,i am shocked that there are actually someone who will die from using too much computer.i think the person never manage his time well, and he got too addicted.after watching this video, what will i do? i will not stop my computer games, but i will manage my time better.i will not ignore my parents even though i am playing a game.i think this is very rude, and they should not be treated this way.

  29. From this week lesson, i learn about Information overload, Attention Deficiency and Addiction to gaming.
Information Overload, i have experience this before during my GCE O level last year. I study too much for my humanities then i dont know which question to choose because i know how to do all the questions but i must choose 1 of them to do. This is example of Information overload, meaning i have too much information that i go confuse.
Attention Deficiency, i also experience it before. An example will be, i playing computer games and my father was watching soccer. Suddenly my father shouted "GOAL" and my attention will be turn into the television, then my game charactor will die. This is also link with multi-tasking, using facebook, msn and blogging at the same time.
Lastly, i learn not to be addicted to online games. If not many problems will happen. Example my relationship with my family will become far apart. I also realise that many people die because of online gaming.

  30. Information overload is something that is not good. Its where people try to absorb information more than what they are capable of. Computer can have information overload sometimes causing computer to hang. Human also will have information overload that causes them to be stress. One of the example I had is the mid year examination in my secondary school. I studied until late night trying to cramp as much information as possible. It made me stress. This result in getting bad result and later made me fall sick.
Attention Deficiency is something that most youths have these days. As technology becomes more advance, there are a lot of distraction. A good example is how students nowadays play with their laptop during lectures/classes. Not just laptop, mobile phones also included.
    From the video I watched:
    - I learnt that when I constantly online and multi-tasking is that I will get distracted during class/lecture and also I will not get my work/assignment done as there is always distraction such as games or facebook, etc.
    - To me game addiction is something that is not good. I have a brother who is a game addict. Whenever it is a holiday and weekends he always play and forget about his time to sleep and eat, did not do any homework and also did not do any chores. I find it not good and it is a bad thing. I don't mind if someone who is a game addict do his work properly and did not forget about the time.
    - Attention Deficiency to me has affected me in some way both in my personal life and in my schoolwork. In my schoolwork, I sometimes forget to do my assignment because of I am distracted.

  31. I have learnt that information overload can cause one to have difficulty in understanding an issue and making decisions that can be cause by the presence of too much information. Hence to me, information overload is a disadvantage to user like us. It can often lead us to confusion and also affects our ability to judge the information found.

Attention deficiency is usually caused by distractions on the internet such as Facebook, twitter or YouTube, or even excessive online games. As most of us tend to have short attention span; it would help if we were to take breaks from time to time. Moreover, it can help us perform our task better as our brain is functioning well.

After viewing the video, I admit that I am not able to multi task well; as I will usually lose focus when I am constantly online and multi-tasking. Hence it is best to avoid any distractions and get our priority work done first.

And game addiction, have become a problem among youths or even adults nowadays around the world, as it is a compulsive use of computer that interferes with their daily life. These users would play compulsively, isolating themselves from their family and friends, and focus almost entirely on in-game achievements rather than boarder their life events. Some consequences of game addiction include family interaction problems, skipping meals, or even cases of death. I feel that gaming is definitely a waste of time; I would rather spend time bonding with my family.

In conclusion, I agree that attention deficiency will affect our personal life as well as our school work, as we tend to pay more attention to the distractions around us. For me, I am not addicted to any online games but I would be distracted by social network such as Facebook, and neglected my studies. Thus, one must control our time well, and know what is more important and beneficial for our future.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Information overload can cause us to waste time as it would need time to consolidate those information and choose which is best for us.

In the internet, there is so many information and not all are relevant. Thus, we need to spend more time trying to evaluate whether the source is reliable or not.

In this lesson, I learnt how to see whether the website is reliable or not. Through the format of the webpage, it shows whether the source is reliable or not. And I found out that it is easy to make money through making website by making a donation service in your website. It is like a "scam" which tricks people to donate.

After watching the video, I've found out that everybody around me is so into their social world.

Last sunday, i went out with my friend and during the journey ride, he was into his PSP and handphone so much that we didn't talk alot.

This shows that people around has becoming more and more virtual. This makes communication hard to start as both of us are into the virtual world.

  33. Through this week lesson, I feel that attention deficiency is becoming a big issue to everyone. It gives me a clearer picture of what is happening to the people, getting distracted easily. Attention Deficiency reduces our work performance and causes us to lose our focus on what we need to do. For an example, most of the students wander off unknowingly during lectures to sites like Facebook and Twitter. I admit that I get easily distracted by those websites as I feel a constant need to check on any updates on Facebook.

The video about multi-tasking and internet-gaming addiction really enlightens me as it shows me how computer gaming has actually harmed youths. I can see that game addiction makes users play compulsively. They are addicted to gaming and no longer want to socialize with others or even communicate with their family member. In the online games, we are not held back by our age, or race we are free to express ourselves without fear of embarrassment. Therefore, it is important to educate them and get them to cut down their gaming session by organizing camps for them to interact with others instead of playing computer games. However with a certain level of discipline, gaming is good for leisure purposes.

Finally, after looking at the timetable that I had done in Excel, make me understand more of what i am doing everyday &how much time in spend on the net, studying or with my family member. With the timetable, I will know whether I manage my time effectively or not.
